I love this picture of my daughter. I can see her front tooth is missing, she is in the middle of her obsession with her American Girl doll, and we curl her long locks for a special tea party. That was 3 years ago. My office is filled with various framed shots of her throughout the years as she grows up. This holiday, with the help of Sharpie markers, I couldn’t help but add a little holiday doodling flair to them.
And the cool thing about this craft idea is that I did it in such a way that I can change it out for every season if I so choose. But first, I have to tell you about the great deals at Staples. Right now a 12-pack of Sharpie markers is only $6! I also got a 4-pack of metallic Sharpie markers for $5, a set of twin tip Sharpies for $6, and a 5-pack of neon markers (not pictured) for $5. It’s a Staples Sharpie extravaganza!
I know you know how versatile and invaluable this tool can be, but did you know how crafty you can be with them?
I’ve used Sharpie markers for many festive occasions, like gold bearded mugs for St. Patrick’s Day, baby chick designed nails for Easter, balloon Jack-o-lanterns for Halloween, and the list goes on.
Today’s craft idea is a fun holiday home decor idea. Learn how to dress up your framed family photos with fun holiday doodles!
Here is how you do it:
You will need plastic sheet protectors and Sharpie markers of choice.
I really like the metallic ones for this craft, and I used a red and a light and dark green.
Dismantle your framed picture and sandwich the glass and picture in-between and cut to size.
Reassemble your picture with the plastic sleeve in place, and you have the perfect (non-permanent) surface to doodle on. I say non-permanent because, once the holiday is over, you can simply dismantle again and remove the plastic sleeve.
I doodled in holly berries and leaves and metallic snowflakes on this one…
and I doodled in Santa hats on this one. Note: the metallic Sharpies are opaque, so for the Santa hat, I first put a layer of silver and added red onto the top.
You can add jewelry details, patterns, and designs. Have fun with it!
On this one I doodled a candy can pattern along the outside border, and an outlined JOY on the front.
It was really fun to “Holiday-ize” these family memories.
And they look great on the mantel with the rest of my holiday decor!
Fabulous!
So, what are you waiting for? Go to Staples today and grab all of the HOT Sharpie deals to dress up your holiday!
