Remembering…

Certain days in history stick with you, in your head, in your heart, in your memories. If you are at least 18-20 years old, I’m sure you remember, just like I do, what you were doing exactly 11 years ago today. I remember driving into work at the time, turning on the radio, and not quite comprehending what I was hearing. The radio announcers were discussing something about a plane crash in NYC. I remember thinking what an awful accident. My thoughts were with the people on that plane and the families members who I’m sure were worried about them. By the time I made it to work, everyone in the office was huddled around the small TV in the break room as we watched a second plane crash into the Twin Towers in NY. Then the day just got surreal as you know, and history, lives, families, a city, the world, were changed forever.

My tween certainly wasn’t old enough to remember that day. She wasn’t even born yet. And as we were watching some 9/11 Memorial coverage last night, she was getting scared and we needed to change the channel and we had a little discussion about that day. It is scary. Still is, even 11 years later. NYC is one of my favorite cities of all time to visit. This tragic event didn’t just happen to the city of Manhattan, this was act of terrorism on the whole nation, and it sent a message to the whole world.

The message I want to leave my tween is to live every day to its fullest. Don’t take the moments or days for granted. I am thankful every single day that I get to be the mother of this beautifully spunky 10 year old girl, a wife to a loving husband, a sister, an aunt, a daughter and so forth. Life is an adventure and it needs to be lived with passion, inspiration, and love.

Today I offer up an inspirational quote. Pin it, share it, live it, and remember…..

For more information about how to discuss or talk about 9/11 with your tween or kids, you can visit the National 9/11 Memorial site. There is a great “Tearn and Learn” section of the site just for this purpose.
