I’m an 80’s girl all the way! And I am not afraid to admit that WHAM! was one of my favorite 80’s bands. Who could resist the catchy “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” song?
Come on, really?
I had to actually show my tween this video recently. She definitely knows what 80’s style is, especially since it seems to be back in style with her age group. I’m actually raiding her accessories to complement these shirts. When I was making these t-shirt designs, she asked, “Who is Frankie?” and what do you mean “Choose Life”?.
I’m heading off to the SNAP! conference this weekend, and one of the events planned is a Duck Tape® sponsored 80’s Prom night. I won’t be wearing a prom dress, but I figured I could definitely get in the spirit and dress up in my best 80’s style.
I recently received a couple boxes of heat transfer material from Silhouette to test out, and I knew that making custom homemade WHAM! t-shirts was the perfect craft idea to test them out on.
I found some really bright neon t-shirts from my local Michaels. I knew the Cream Heat Transfer color would stand out nicely on the neon pink and blue, and the Blue Heat Transfer color would stand out great on the neon green tee.
I used my Silhouette Cameo and Silhouette Designer software to create my custom designs.
The trick with cutting out your design on the heat transfer material is that your design must be the mirror image of itself.
When you feed the material in the Silhouette cutting machine, the plastic is face down and when you set your settings correctly it cuts out just the heat transfer material.
Then you peel off the negative space of your design, leaving just your original design.
When you place it face down now on your fabric surface, it is right-reading.
I placed a thin towel over the top and ironed on my design using the directions on the box.
I made two additional ones for my co-crafty chica sister and another friend that will be rooming with us at the conference.
You will have to follow along on Instagram for the full fashion show!
I absolutely love how they turned out. And the smooth heat transfer material is actually really soft to the touch. It does not make the front of the shirt feel stiff or clunky at all.
So just relax, and choose LIFE, and be sure to wake me up before you GO-GO!
