All around the world, Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th or 3.14, which is approximately the number that represents the mathematical constant of the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi is represented by the Greek letter “π”. No matter what size circle you measure, big or small, you will always get the same number which is approximately 3.14159. The decimals can go on and on, and it has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point, but in general, it is usually 3.14.
My daughter’s class is officially celebrating it tomorrow. She is in 5th grade, and it is the perfect math lesson for her age to learn the concept of Pi. Today, I am suggesting a super yummy way to introduce this concept of Pi… with Pie!
It is a great day to try some Marie Callender’s frozen pie.
I have to admit, this was my daughter’s first taste of chicken pot pie! I remember when I was a kid, chicken pot pie was always a favorite treat to pick out from the freezer aisle on “babysitter” nights. I know technology has come much further then when I was 11 years old. You can certainly still cook your frozen pot pie in the oven, but did you know, you can also get a browned, flaky crust out of the microwave?
Marie Callender’s pot pie packaging is made so that you microwave them right in the box. You can cook an individual pot pie in a fraction of the time it would take in an oven. I have to tell you, the chicken pot pie smelled soooo good coming out of the microwave.
I tried to grab a couple pictures of my girl with her first pot pie, and showing off the festive π printable tags we used, but she couldn’t keep her mouth away from diving into the flaky crust on the outer edge of her yummy smelling dinner.
I finally let her sit at the table and enjoy her dinner in peace. = )
And for dessert we tried some of Marie Callender’s single serving frozen mini pies. Again, these were so convenient to microwave from frozen, and still get a flaky crust because of the unique packaging. She went straight for the peach pie, where I couldn’t resist the mini chocolate satin pie. Good thing they came in a package of two, so I could share.
Ummm, can you say, to…die…for! It was a perfect little single serving treat.
Not that you need an occasion to eat pie, but this is certainly a yummy way to celebrate Pi day. Check out the many different varieties of Marie Callender’s pies and where to purchase them.

And if you are feeling especially festive, get your free Pi printable. I printed out on white cardstock paper, and used my handy scallop circle punch, but you can certainly cut out with a scissors. I taped it onto a toothpick, and voilá!
