Holiday gift giving season is upon us and so are all those fun holiday parties! If you are like me, you like to bring the party host or hostess a little something to say “thank you”. Figuring out what to bring for the party hostess can be a daunting task that ultimately ends with the purchase of the traditional bottle of wine or box of chocolates. Really, you can get a little crafty and make some really beautiful and EASY gift baskets all from items found at your local grocery store and it’s bakery. You can make your baskets big or small, but with just a little creative wrapping, you can turn store-bought into gorgeous homemade in minutes.
First step, scope out your local grocer’s bakery for yummy treats. Chocolate is always a great addition, and tissue paper and candles can go a long way too. And sometimes it is all about the wrapping that can turn the ordinary into fabulous.
Here are a just a few things I came home with recently to make a variety of holiday gift baskets:
And here are a few simple tricks to make creative homemade gift ideas:
1. You can make a super simple and festive Holiday Cookie Jar.
Simply use some decorative scrapbook paper, use the circle lid as a template and cut out a circle topper. Fill a large quart sized mason jar (I like the vintage green ones)with cookies, close with lid and decorative paper line, and finish off with a little ribbon or baker’s twine around the rim of the lid.
2. How about a simple hot cocoa and madeleines gift basket?
Dress up 2-3 madeleines in a plastic gift bag and tie at the top with a little baker’s twine or ribbon. Fill a second gift bag with marshmallows, and add hot cocoa packets into a pretty container.
3. Try a tasty breakfast basket with croissants, jam, fresh berries and chocolate.
Put 3-4 croissants into a fun cupcake box lined with parchment paper. Then add some yummy jam and fresh berries into the mix. For extra yumminess, add chocolate or whipped cream into a pretty basket.
4. Dress up your jam bottle in seconds.
Cut a circle from decorative fabric that is at least 4 inches wider in diameter than your jam jar. Use a rubber band to attach on the top and dress up with a little ribbon or baker’s twine.
5. Mix and match and put it all together in a pretty plastic bowl.
Get creative, and just use a little extra “dressing up” of your bakery items or grocery items and you can put together some fabulous holiday gift baskets this season. You will soon be the hostess gift hero!
