What is Magic Fun Dough, you may ask? Well, it’s modeling clay with a twist. The magic part is that you can transfer images onto the dough to make fun play pieces.

We spent a lovely Thanksgiving with family, and with two tweens and two 4 year olds in the house, we needed an activity that they could all work on together while we were prepping for our Turkey Day festivities and monster meal.

The Magic Fun Dough Pirate Cove set was the perfect solution. The girls were old enough to direct and manage the boys, but not too old that they didn’t have just as much fun playing with the dough. The boys were the perfect age to enjoy and play with the pirate themed set.

The stage was set. We set up the dining room table with a plastic tablecloth, and after a brief introduction of what they were playing with, it was time to dig into the set.

While my girl worked with one boy to build the pirate ship…

…the other two started playing with the dough and testing out the transfers.

The Pirate Cove kit came with tons of fun images like pirates and treasure maps, perfect for our pirate dough adventure.

After you roll out the dough, with the roller also included in the kit, place the transfer image of choice face down onto the clay. Use the water applicator to moisten the image, and then use the sponge tool to press it into the clay. Reveal your image, and then use the shaped dough cutters to cut them into shapes.

Honestly, once my nephew got the hang of it, he couldn’t stop making more and more transferred clay pieces. He became the pro of the bunch.

He figured out that if the image wasn’t transferred onto the clay yet, to keep pressing it with the sponge transfer press.

You can do so many fun things with the playset.

We even put the transfer images (or tattoo) on their arms. = )

And the pirate ship is an interactive toy that you can squirt dough through the cannon, make shapes with the different molds, and put your clay pieces on stands and on the ship.

After they were done with the dough, the kids kept playing with the ship.

This was such activity for the crafty tweens in our clan, and our precocious preschoolers. I loved how I could just hand over the playset while they happily played for over an hour. I don’t know about you, but that’s a thumbs up in my book.
