Eyeball Mason Jars with Homemade Glittery Slime

Homemade Glitter Slime for Halloween party for kids

Yes, I went there!

I think it is the time of year, but I couldn’t resist making slime with my tween. It sounds like it should be a craft idea for a younger age group, but honestly, I don’t think this craft idea ever gets old. I know I had fun experimenting and making my own slime.

There are plenty of homemade slime recipes out there, but I was especially inspired by this fun one on The 36th Avenue. With only three ingredients, I knew I had to try it, and turn it into a fun Halloween craft idea.

Here is what you need:

  • Borax (this can be found in the laundry detergent or cleaning aisle of your local grocer’s)
  • Glitter Glue (I used Elmer’s Glitter Glue)
  • Warm water

This is how to make your slime, honestly, in less than 10 minutes:

  1. Empty one full bottle of glitter glue into a large disposable bowl
  2. Mix 1 tsp of Borax into 1 cup of warm water
  3. Pour the mixture over the top of the glitter glue
  4. Let it sit for about 20 seconds and get ready to get your hands dirty
  5. Grab your glob of glue and start molding and mixing together in your hand until it is the perfect consistency of slime (you may need to dip it back into the borax mixture a couple of times until it changes from a sticky glue to a globby slime consistency)
  6. Play with it to your hearts content, and/or package it in a jar for future use

Then, of course, with Halloween around the corner, and my fascination with eyeball crafts this time of year (i.e. eyeball melted bead suncatchers, eyeball rings, and eyeball painted pumpkins), I knew I had to turn them into eyeball mason jars!

Turning a mason jar is so simple when you cut out a paper label or add fabric to slip in between the two layers of a basic mason jar lid. Remember these “Smart Cookie” teacher appreciation jars or these simple Polka Dot Decorated Cookie Gift Jars?

It’s the same concept here, but instead I created a fun eyeball mason jar lid printable!

Download and print them out on white cardstock paper and then cut them out to size. I took it a step further, and wanted to add a little dimension to my lids, so I used Mod Podge Dimensional Magic. It goes on just like glue, but dries to a clear, solid and dimensional. Perfect!

I applied the Mod Podge Dimensional Magic just on my eyeball design, just out to the white areas. Remember, it is liquid glue going on, so you have to be wary of moving it after you apply, otherwise the glue will roll around.

After it dries, it leaves a really cool dimensional, yet hard effect.

These were so fun to make, and they would be such a fun Halloween party gift bag treat or activity at the party.
